How can I serve in the church?
Thorn Creek offers many opportunities where your gifts and talents may be used in serving Christ and His church. Serving in any ministry is a great way to connect with people who share similar interests.
BELL CHOIR - Individuals, high school age and older, who enjoy ringing and wish to develop and use their gift in a bell choir are encouraged to join the Alleluia Ringers. Interested individuals may contact Thea Stienstra.
CHILDREN’S MESSAGE LEADERS – If you would like to make an impact in the lives of our kids by sharing a brief message with them during our Sunday morning services, please contact Maria Schutt. You may volunteer to share only one message, or you may sign up to give messages on a regular basis.
CHOIR - Individuals, high school age and older, who enjoy singing and wish to use their gift in an adult choir are encouraged to join the Celebration Singers. Interested individuals may contact Thea Stienstra.
“COFFEE AND” - Each Sunday morning, “Coffee And servers”, serve refreshments to members and guests who gather in the Fellowship Hall following the Worship service. Refreshments may include a variety of cookies, crackers, breads, cake, etc., in addition to coffee and lemonade. Individuals who wish to serve and/or make refreshment may contact the church office.
DRAMA – Those who enjoy participating in drama and desire to use their talents in church are encouraged to contact Maria Schutt.
MERCIFUL MEALS – Individuals volunteer to prepare and deliver meals to members and families in the congregation who are going though difficult circumstances. You may contact coordinators Nancy Dykstra or Judith Miedema if you would like to help with this care ministry. Interested individuals may contact Nancy Dykstra.
MINISTRY IN MUSIC – Instrumentalists and vocalists who are interested in sharing a special music number at one of our services, either during the service or as pre-service music, are encouraged to contact Maria Schutt.
NEWS REVIEW – Individuals who would like to assist with the preparation of Thorn Creek’s monthly news publication, The “News Review”, may contact Joyce Hoeksta.
NURSERY ATTENDANT – Members of the congregation may volunteer to assist in the Nursery caring for children through age three. Nursery services are provided for scheduled services. Interested individuals may contact Pam VanderMeer.
WORSHIP TEAM – Individuals who feel called to lead in Worship Ministry as worshipers, vocalists and instrumentalists may contact Maria Schutt.
TECHNOLOGY IN WORSHIP – Technical support individuals assist in all services as sound and recording operators, camera operators and producers, and as Sunday Plus projection operators. If you have technical gifts and would like to use them, contact Carl Faber or Dave Huizenga.
USHER - Ushers serve the church each Sunday morning in several significant ways before and during worship services. They assist worshipers with seating, assist those that may have special needs, assist Worship Ministries and the pastor during worship services and they assist as needed if emergency situations arise. Ushering provides a great opportunity to meet and serve people. Interested individuals may contact Scott Heersema.
WELCOME CENTER ATTENDANT - Attendants’ are stationed in the Welcome Center before and after Sunday morning Worship services to assist visitors. Attendants’ answer questions about Thorn Creek, distribute Visitor packets, and coordinate the DVD requests for services. Interested individuals may contact Kent Jorna.
